Tim has not left the Buller region since he arrived back in 1998, being in love with the area so much he decided to take over the company in 2002 and hasn’t looked back. He is our ‘silver back’, he keeps the tribe organised and the two ankle biters in check. Not only involved with the daily running of UDNZ, his broad skills base crosses all levels from upper management, training, river guiding to driving the bus, these always see Tim with something to do.

Muel likes to kick it old school. He was around back when Tim first turned up at Ultimate Descents. A real happy go lucky kind of character, Muel likes to join us for a bit of summer fun. His laid back attitude and sense of humor turns hard work into play, whether he is driving the bus or out on a heli-rafting expedition. In the off season you’ll find him carving up the mountain and dragging the injured folk off, as he works ski patrol.

Si, as you can see from his smile, loves the rivers. He splits his time between Canada and New Zealand. Guiding most days, his days off he will head for the river to go whitewater sledging or kayaking. Like the rest of the team, he’s a true Kiwi at heart, returning home each year. Simon and Lisa have even put down a few roots in Murchison, owning their own home here. You’ll now just as likely to find Si at home baking bread and working in the garden.

Regan is our local boy. Growing up in Murchison he typically ended up working in forestry, until the lure of rafting was so great he had to find out for himself. He is now a true asset of local knowledge and trained on all our local rivers. Last season saw him get his grade five ticket on the Karamea River, one of the West Coast’s finest helicopter whitewater rafting runs.

Lisa started training up as a raft guide with Ultimate Descents many moons ago. She chose to return to the team and to the Buller. Lisa is one of our senior staff members, and although she is very small in size she makes up for it my showing the boys skill and precision. When Lisa is not working for us you find her teaching what she knows best – rafting and river rescue. In our off season you will find her rafting on the Fraser River, Canada.
