1 Day Karamea – heli rafting at its best

This is our prized one day heli-rafting trip, an unforgettable adventure.

Helicopter Landing Pad on the Karamea

New Zealand has more helicopters per head of population than anywhere else in the world ( well so they tell us ).  This enables us to access the remote, wild and scenic rivers of the north west of the South Island.

…hence the creation of Heli Rafting.

Rusty Guiding on the Karamea

Heli-rafting the Karamea River’s lower gorge with 4 rapids pushing grade 5 at medium to high flows.  Enjoy a stunning 10 minute helicopter flight up the river, where you are dropped off in the wilderness at the river’s edge along with your rafts and guides.  Next we will give you all the training and advice you need to paddle as a team safely down the river.

Lisa Guiding a big Drop

Six hours of remote untouched wilderness and sometimes hair raising rafting will unfold along the way.  We break for lunch in paradise for a much needed energy boost.  A little walk up Kakapo creek, then it’s back on to the rafts to finish the roller coaster ride out to the opening of the hills, West Coast, and the end of a great adventure.
