Drifting at snail
pace down a scenic river eyeing up the next fishing
spot. Does this sound like your ideal adventure for as
many days as you want ? Come talk with us so we can
tailor a fishing package to your specifications. Whether
you are looking for a special spot or just fancy a
remote location full of some the great trout
fishing.
We have been offering
packages to many clients both local and international
due to the reputation of the fishing we have at our
door step. We have local rivers 1hr away by helicopter
that offer a fish count of 20 to 45 per km.
We have been
doing this pretty much since we opened, local knowledge
has been satisfactorily earned and aids yourself
in the search for that fantastic fishing trip. Not
to forget the mission getting there and back.
With so many choices
of rivers to fish on it's difficult to write them
all down, so.. the info below is an itinerary of
a trip we do on a regular basis.
MARUIA
CAMP-OUT "The fisherman's dream"
Spilling its waters
from the mountains of the South Island's Lewis Pass,
the Maruia River winds through a heavily forested
valley and rural farmland before joining the Buller
River near Murchison. Ease of access and convenient
location combine with a spectacular and remote section
of the river to make this trip a real gem. Both rafting
and inflatable kayak options are available depending
on group size and river levels, and for the keen angler,
the Rainbow and Brown trout fishing is legendary giving
you a great challenge despite your skill level. Don't
forget to bring the sandfly protection.

Day 1
Starts with packing
expedition gear and driving to the put-in point. After
rigging the rafts were soon cruising through
the beech forest looking for a good spot to break
for a gourmet picnic lunch. In the afternoon the river
becomes steeper and more confined and we shoot some
of the bigger rapids of the trip, finally reaching
our campsite with time to set up camp and relax or
explore before evening sets in. Don't forget though
if you are out to catch some fish then your guide
will constantly be on the lookout for fish in the
river or making sure that you are ready for the known
areas where the bigger fish tend to live all year
round.
Day 2
Starts with a fresh,
wholesome breakfast sets us on our way on the final
day of our trip. With the gear packed it's straight
back into the action as we tackle the Maruias
white water once more. The rafts and kayaks bob and
weave their way around boulders and through waves
in the isolated valley, crystal clear pools between
rapids giving us time to drift, relax and take in
the scenery. We can stop in many places along the
river for a wee fishing break in areas that getting
to on foot are impossible. We can even drift the craft
in the middle of the river to fish towards the sides,
usually unheard off in the fishing community on a
river. As we ride the final rapids the valley starts
to open again and the river converges with the road
to take us to our waiting transport that will take
us back to our private base in Murchison for a shower and probably a well-earned cold beer.
